Nevertheless, the real question at hand is if the Constitution states that all United States presidents must be born on American soil, then why shouldn't their wives be required to be American-born as well?

But they screwed up by not realizing that a United States President's wife who is just inches away from a man with such great power just as easily could be a foreign spy or remain a secret loyalist to her former foreign government and provide them with State secrets.
The authors of the Constitution of The United States were/are considered brilliant men, however, they made numerous mistakes while writing such a document-- proving that they were not as bright as Americans think they were. ☝
